Company Christmas Party & Gift Exchange – December 14, 2018

Beshara Global Migration Law Firm had the Company Holiday Party on December 14, 2017, to celebrate the season and a year of success. The lunch was followed by secret Santa gift exchange.

The whole team had a great time and they are energized and ready to start a successful 2018.

Fernanda Joins AILA and OCBA – December 2017

Fernanda Cortes, Attorney at Law, has become a member of the American Immigration Lawyer Association (AILA) Central Florida Chapter and Orange County Bar Association (OCBA).

Joining AILA and OCBA is very important for Fernanda as they are the primary vehicles for attorneys to meet, exchange information in their legal specialty areas, and provide valuable legal and community services to residents.

Adjunct Professor – January 6, 2018

Edward Beshara will resume being an adjunct Professor of Business Immigration Law and Practice at the University of Florida Levin College of Law for the Spring Semester. The first day of classes for Spring Term is Monday, January 8, 2018.

The University of Florida Levin College of Law is one of the largest law schools in the country, educating more than 1,200 students annually.

Edward enjoys very much teaching the students and offering his knowledge and learning from his 35 years of experience in Immigration to the class attendees.

EB5investor Magazine Las Vegas EB-5 & Global Investment Immigration Convention – January 26-27, 2018

Edward Beshara will be a sponsor, a panel moderator and speaker at the EB5 Investors Magazine first conference of 2018: the Las Vegas EB-5 & Global Investment Immigration Convention at the luxurious Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Jan. 26-27, 2018.

The two-day networking and educational event, with more than 1,000 attendees, will feature a gathering of migration agents, regional centers, immigration and securities attorneys, developers, broker-dealers and other prominent EB-5 program stakeholders.

Sunset date for the EB-5 Regional Center Program extended to January 19, 2018

Congress passed a stopgap spending bill Thursday, December 21, 2017, averting a partial government shutdown at midnight Friday but pushing into January showdowns on spending, immigration, health care and national security. This extends the current sunset date for the EB-5 Regional Center Program as well, which was supposed to expire at midnight on Friday, December 22, 2018.

USCIS to Begin Accepting Applications under the International Entrepreneur Rule

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced on December 14, 2017, that it is taking steps to implement the International Entrepreneur Rule (IER), in accordance with a recent court decision.

USCIS Ends Temporary Protected Status For Nicaraguans

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is ending a 20-year a temporary protected status program for Nicaraguans effective in January 2019, according to a notice issued Thursday, December 1 in the Federal Register. Current beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) under Nicaragua’s designation who want to maintain that status through the program’s termination date of Jan. 5, 2019, must re-register between Dec. 15, 2017 and Feb. 13, 2018.

Extension of the Designation of Honduras for Temporary Protected Status and re-Registration Period Now Open.

The TPS designation of Honduras has been automatically extended for 6 months, from January 6, 2018, through July 5, 2018. Current beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) under Honduras’ designation who want to maintain that status through the current expiration date of July 5, 2018, must re-register between Dec. 15, 2017 and Feb. 13, 2018. Re-registration procedures, including how to renew employment authorization documentation, have been published in the Federal Register and on the USCIS website.

USCIS Launches Online N-400 Naturalization Application Using USCIS Online Account. December 11, 2017

Applicants can file Form N-400, Application for Naturalization online through their USCIS online account. When they use the interactive Form N-400, applicants will see questions, alerts, and notifications specific to the answers they provide while completing the form. Applicants will also see prompts and reminders to upload required evidence. This means each person follows a personalized path for completing the form based on the information that they provide.

January 2018 Visa Bulletin Released

The U.S. Department of State (DOS) finally released the January 2018 Visa Bulletin. Unsurprisingly, there is not much progress from the previous month’s visa bulletin:

  • The cutoff date for India in the employment-based, second preference (EB2) category moves forward by three weeks, to November 22, 2008. EB2 China moves ahead by about five weeks, to a new cutoff date of August 8, 2013.
  • For non-regional center filings in the employment-based, fifth preference (EB5) category, the cutoff date for China moves forward by one week, to July 22, 2014. The cutoff date for EB5 non-regional center cases for all other countries remains current.
